M-Pesa has been very revolutionary in Kenya and has grown to be the dominant mode of money transfer. Almost every adult in Kenya has an M-Pesa account but have you ever wondered what happens to that M-Pesa account when somebody passes away?
Most people rarely list their M-Pesa accounts in their list of assets and rarely share their PIN numbers. Normally, when a Safaricom line is not used for 120 days (4 months) it is recycled and if there was money in the M-Pesa account, it is put into a bank account for storage. The money will be given back when certain relevant documents are produced.
