In the past couple of weeks, Kenyans have been having difficulty in getting unga on supermarket shelves especially the subsidized type. There are various reasons as to why this is happening.

A number of businessmen have been accused of hiking the price by repackaging it in clear bags than selling it in various villages at a higher price. Another place where the unga has been going to is in Canada.

Photos have emerged of various bags of GOK certified unga being sold at a grocery store called Chakula Tamu in Toronto Canada, a store that specializes in East African food targeting various Kenyans living there. The price has been hiked from Ksh90 to Ksh1150 ($14) indicating the profits to be made are really attractive.

Just look at how customers are happy to pay for the unga at that price.
