One of the biggest complaints under the leadership of Evans Kidero as the governor of Nairobi County was that there was a massive pile up of garbage in the capital city hence downgraded the image of the city. The new governor Mike Sonko has kicked off his duties by deploying his staff to do some massive clean up in various parts of the city. The team have done garbage collection and removal of campaign posters that filled the city walls.

He posted this statement on his Facebook account:

OPERATION NG’ARISHA JIJI

Today marks the beginning of getting rid of the stench that has plagued our city for a long time.

We have officially launched a general cleaning exercise that shall cover the entire county. My mission as Governor is to completely transform and restore our city’s once glorious image. I have ordered for the dispatch of more than 50 trucks to immediately begin this process.

The cleaning campaign which includes; unblocking sewers, removal of campaign posters, clearing mounds of garbage, responsible garbage disposal, e.t.c will continue until Nairobi is declared the cleanest city in Africa. #LetsFixNairobi
