Airtel Kenya together with parent firm Bharti Airtel has now got the green light to offer cross border mobile money transfer in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda. The first phase is expected to start in November which will be a pilot launch then within a year there will be full commercial launch.
Airtel got approval from the four Central Banks of the countries. As for the foreign exchange rates, the company has not revealed how it will handle it. East Africa’s mobile money market is growing as people have shunned banks and credit/debit cards. Mobile money has been more convenient.
