The security of JKIA will be upgraded after the Treasury allocated sh1.3 billion for the installation of new security equipment. This will enhance airport screening, separation of arrival and departure passengers, clearing of the flight path and airport fencing.
The Treasury had allocated a total of sh6.4 billion for JKIA upgrades and construction of new airports in Mandera, Malindi and Kisii.
The government also plans to construct a 6.5km railway line from Syokimau to the airport (JKIA). The airport needs a category one status to be able to get approval for direct US flights from Kenya. Fedex and Delta Airways are ready to fly directly to Kenya once approval is got.
