Companies in Kenya spent over Ksh85.8 billion in advertising in Kenya up from Ksh79.2 billion back in 2013. This is according to data from media monitoring firm Reelforge.
Safaricom, Kenya’s biggest company is the top spender for the third time in a row after having spent over Ksh8.05 billion in various forms of ads. These are radio, television and print media. Reckitt Benckiser was second with Ksh2.9 billion followed by non-profit organisation Population Services (PS) with an ad spending of around Ksh2.8 billion. Others were Samsung (ksh2.1 billion), EABL (Ksh2.09 b), Unilever (Ksh1.9 billion), Airtel Kenya (ksh1.6 billion), Multichoice Kenya (Ksh1.36 billion), OLX Kenya (Ksh1.31 billion) and KCB (Ksh1.3 billion).
For those who have no idea Reckitt is responsible for brands such as Dettol, Jik bleaches, Air Wick, Mortein Doom and Harpic. These have dominated TV ads.
