Nakumatt Supermarket has acquired two Ugandan stores that belonged to South Africa’s Shoprite. One of the Shoprite outlets in Kampala had been closed due to under-performance and poor location.
The two stores are located in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Shoprite started operations in the country around 15 years ago. Other retailers such as Uchumi, Capital Shoppers, Quality, Tuskys and Nakumatt brought it a lot of competition driving them out of business. Sometime back it sold 3 outlets to Nakumatt for Ksh4 billion.
Nakumatt Holdings now has 8 branches in Uganda and has been expanding massively all over Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
