Safaricom Introduces Mpesa Debit Cards

Safaricom is still going head to head with banks with new products, the latest being its new debit card that can be used to pay for various government services which are being moved online. The national and county government collect billions of shillings everyday from taxes, fines, licenses and other very many things.

Mpesa started out as a person to person money transfer service and has now evolved to offer a wide variety of products. Most of which were originally provided by banks.

Safaricom made Ksh12.5 billion in the half year ended September and this is constantly growing every year. There are over 2000 pay bill partners and 139,000 merchants who accept payments for goods and services using the mobile based platform.
