Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is looking more modern every year. After the fire that destroyed a whole arrivals terminal, there has been massive construction and replacement of equipment.
Terminal 1A was completed some months ago and now Terminal 2 is almost ready. This will increase airports capacity to 7.5 million passengers. This is a huge growth from the old 2.5 million passengers. This is a prefabricated facility which is temporary as the Greenfield Terminal is built . It cost Ksh1.7 billion.
The terminal has 24 check in counters and 6 boarding gates, two for domestic and two for international flights. The last two gates will be “swing gates” which will be used during peak traffic hours. The terminal can handle up to 9 flights an hour and has 6 parking bays. There is also an upgraded three stage baggage screening system which can screen 1200 bags an hour.
