Am sure everyone of us has had a headache at one point in their life. Have you ever wondered what is actually hurting? Is it your skull, brain or just some random tissue in between?
We have the answer for you. The meninges, tissue which wraps around the outside of the brain, is what hurts. Some of this tissue is in the crevices of the brain hence making you feel like the pain is coming from deep inside your head. This tissue is the only part of your brain that has pain fibers (nociceptive fibers). Your brain doesn’t really send pain signals.
