Marisol Maldonado is a former fashion model who got into the limelight thanks to her being the wife to the Grammy Award winner and Matchbox 20 frontman, Rob Thomas. Robert Kelly Thomas is a German-born American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is best known for being the lead singer of rock band Matchbox Twenty. He received three Grammy Awards for co-writing and singing on the 1999 hit “Smooth” by Santana.
Marisol was born in Queens, New York City in May 1971. Her parents are of Puerto Rican descent.
Rob met Marisol at an awards after-party that had been held in Montreal back in 1997 after being introduced by a mutual friend. They immediately hit it off and started dating shortly afterward. They dated for a year before tying the knot in October 1998. The wedding was held in California. The couple hasn’t had any kids due to health issues, however, Rob has a son from a previous relationship.
Marisol started her modeling career back in her early twenties. She was able to work with a number of high-end brands and in addition to that, she was also a video vixen.
Sidewalk Angels Foundation is a non-profit co-founded by Marisol. It assists needy people in the United States with essential items such as medical care. It is dedicated to providing critically needed funds and support to over 20 no-kill animal shelters and animal rescues across the country that help to fight for the rights and fair treatment of those with no voice. Marisol runs the foundation alongside her mother Maria.
Marisol has been battling Lyme disease since 2003. At first, she was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis and later lupus due to the conflicting symptoms the disease presents. In 2015 during surgery to remove a lesion from her brain, the doctors were able to correctly diagnose her.
The medical condition causes Marisol to suffer from seizures, numbness, constant pain and visual disturbance. This has made it hard for her to have children.
