Registering your business had always been a problem for many in Kenya since it involved many confusing steps and documents. This made doing business not to be easy and discouraged many.
Well things have now been summarized into 3 easy steps to register your company.
1. Reserve Your Company Name
This is done online through eCitizen website or you can go to one of the many Huduma Centers. The fee s Ksh100 per name.
2. Apply For Company Registration
You download the unified company registration application form (This also has application for Company Registration, KRA PIN, NHIF and NSSF Registration) and other forms needed at attorney-general.go.ke
Once you complete your form, submit it at GPO or City Square Huduma Centers, both located in the Nairobi CBD. The fee you will pay is Ksh10,000.
You will collect your Certificate of Incorportation, KRA PIN, NSSF and NHIF Registration Certificates at the Companies Registry.
3. Apply For A Business Permit
If you are doing your business in Nairobi, you can apply for a permit on the Nairobi City County website: epayments.nairobi.go.ke
THINGS THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO DO
These are the things that have been eliminated from the process
a) The stamp duty assessment on nominal capital, payment and franking
b) An Advocate is no longer need to prepare incorporation documents because standard memorandum and articles of association are now available together with the company application forms.
c) The Declaration of Complaince by an Advocate before a Commissioner of Oaths
d) Getting a Company Seal is now optional.
