Getting into one of the top secondary schools is getting harder and harder if you came from a private primary school. This is due to the complex formulas the Ministry of Education applies and majorly favours a child who went to a public primary school. The only option that results is a private high school.
Here is a list of private schools in Kenya that provide the 8-4-4 system similar to what is available in the public high schools.
1.Light Academy Nairobi
It has a boys school located in Karen and a girls school located in Kilimani. Another boys branch is located in Mombasa. There is an interview exam before admission. It offers both day and boarding.
This is an all girls school situated along Waiyaki Way. There is a non-refundable Ksh25,000 acceptance fee for Form 1. Current fees are around Ksh75,300 per term which includes uniform and lunch.
3. Nyahururu Elite Group of Schools
This one is located in Muthaiga suburbs of Nyahururu town. It has both girls and boys school each offering the 8-4-4 system and British curriculum.
4. St Patrick Hill
The high school is in Kiserian and has both curricula. It is a mixed school divided into St Patrick’s Senior Boys and St Patrick’s Senior Girls School.
5. Juja Senior School
This is a mixed boarding school along Thika Highway. It offers both curricula plus has a Fly Young Program for those who want to be pilots.
6. St Mary’s Boys Secondary School
It is located in Nyeri town along Kimathi Street.
7. Kenya Muslim Academy
Located in Ngara, Nairobi. It is has a mixed day and boarding for boys only. It accepts students from all denominations.
8. Laiser Hill Academy
It is located along Magadi Road, Kajiado. The mixed school has both day and boarding.
9. Aga Khan Academy
It has branches in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. It has both curricula.
The school is run by the Catholic Church. Intake is done on a merit basis since there is an entrance exam.
11. Riara Springs High School
This is a girls secondary school which is a boarding school. There is a ksh2000 interview applicable
12. Makini High School
This is a mixed school in Lavington . It is one of the high performing secondary schools in Kenya.
