10 Songs About A Crazy Ex
An ex can be described as ‘crazy’ if some their actions that may seem to be harmful to their former partner. They tend to act this way because of jealousy, revenge, anger, obsession or just refusing to move on from the relationship. Below is a list of songs about a crazy ex:
1. Charlie Puth – Attention
Lyrically, Charlie expresses his encounters with an ex-girlfriend who is trying to tempt him to get back with her by playing with his emotions. However, she is just looking for attention since she isn’t interested in a permanent relationship. She just wants him to be attached to her hip at all times and never move on from her.
2. Taylor Swift – Blank Space
The song is part of the 1989 album released in 2014. It peaked at #1 spot of the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified 8x platinum by RIAA. Taylor said she wrote the song from the perspective of a crazy but seductive, nuts and manipulative woman that the media had painted her as. The media had slut-shamed her highly publicized romantic life dating various famous people such as Harry Styles, Joe Jonas, Jake Gyllenhaal etc.
3. Mariah Carey – Obsessed
This is the lead single off Mariah’s 12th studio album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel which dropped on June 16, 2009. The message in the song was targeted towards Eminem after he rapped about having a relationship with Mariah. He even played some voicemails supposedly from Mariah. Allegedly, the two dated for six months.
In the track, Mariah describes the subject of the song to be someone who is obsessed with her yet she doesn’t even think about him. She adds that he doesn’t have the ability to impress her and she won’t ever sleep with him even if he is the last man on earth. In the music video, she dresses up as a character that highly resembles Eminem.
4. Iggy Azalea, Rita Ora – Black Widow
The song is generally about female dominance. A Black Widow is a spider that devours its male partner after engaging in sexual relations. The singers liken themselves to the creature by threatening their partners not to mess with them. They want to show them what crazy really means. There is no escape route from the relationship without severe repercussions similar to a Black Widow.
5. Mimi Webb – House On Fire
Mimi sings about burning down her ex’s house after she caught him doing things with another woman that he didn’t want to do with her. She is angry that he lied to her. She has even made friends with the head of police to make sure she won’t be suspected. Mimi had this to say about the track:

6. SZA – Kill Bill
This is the second track on SZA’s sophomore album SOS. It debuted at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lyrically, SZA sings about her homicidal fantasies about an ex-lover. This coincides with the plot of the 2003 – 2004 Kill Bill film. SZA likens herself to Beatrix Kiddo, an assassin who goes on a vengeful killing spree that eventually ends with her ex-lover Bill.
7. Conan Gray – Maniac
This is an upbeat bedroom pop about people who send out rumors. Conan stated it was written after getting a midnight drunk sob text from his ex. Speaking to MTV News he stated:
They’d been running all around town telling everyone that I was some freak who wouldn’t leave them alone when in reality, they were the freak, […] sending strange late-night texts and showing up at my shows unannounced.
8. Mahalia – Letter To Ur Ex
Mahalia revealed that she wrote the song the morning after she and her guy had a really bad argument due to a text that had been sent by his ex-partner the night before. She just wanted to tell her how her actions were making her feel. The ex’s gain in closure was Mahalia’s loss in love. She wanted to ask her to let him go so that she could hold him close.
9. Miranda Lambert – Gun Powder & Lead
This is a track from Miranda’s second album Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It peaked at #52 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 7 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Lyrically, it is about a crazy ex-boyfriend who mistreated her physically and mentally so she decides to do something about it and this is by killing him.
10. Miranda Lambert – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
The track has been described as a country “Blank Space” in terms of insanity. Here she tracks down her ex’s new lover in order to teach him a lesson. She searched for them in five different bars till she tracked them down. She started throwing things at them as a way to attack them.
