An affair can be exciting initially when it’s mostly physical attraction. However, things can turn and become deeply emotional. At this point, you have crossed the affair stage and moved on to love. It may seem harmless but at some point, it can wreak havoc on a current relationship. Below is a list of songs about affairs and falling in love:

1. Avant – Lie About Us

In the song, Avant, who has fallen for his mistress, tries to convince her to be patient before he can leave his current girlfriend and let the whole world know about them. She is tired of sneaking around and she thought she was going to be able to wait for him to leave his lady but now she’s getting impatient. Avant is afraid of breaking his main chick’s heart but he knows it’s a step he has to go through with.

2. Whitney Houston – Saving All My Love For You

This is a song written by Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin. It was originally a minor hit for Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. Whitney’s cover was able to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was her first #1 song.

Lyrically, Whitney sings about being the other woman. She is having a secret relationship with a married man who has a family that needs him there. Even though she doesn’t like not being his priority, she feels that no one man can be as good as him. She would rather just wait for her turn rather than find a man just for herself.

3. Nelly feat Kelly Rowland – Dilemma

The track is part of Nelly’s Nellyville and Kelly Rowland’s Simply Deep and has been thought to be the biggest song in their careers. It was Nelly’s first single in countries such as the UK, Ireland, Australi, Belgium and the Netherlands.

4. Usher – You Make Me Wanna

This is the lead single from Usher’s second studio album, My Way. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Usher talked about the relationship issues in his life that led to the creation of the song:

‘I was with one girl, but I had flown to Los Angeles and I fell in love with this other girl. And what was so odd about it is she started out as a friend, and was encouraging me to keep my relationship afloat. And then I’m like, ‘Well, shit, why don’t I be with you?’

5. Taylor Swift – Ivy

This is the 1oth track on Evermore. It tells the story of a married woman falling in love with a person who is not her husband after having an affair with him. 6. Halsey – Is There Somewhere

Halsey shows the listeners her point of view on falling in love with someone despite them being in a relationship and being their second choice. She promised herself that she wouldn’t fall in love with him but she actually has. She knows he is only participating for the physicality but she is still willing to pretend they are together. Halsey had this to say about the track:

“Is There Somewhere” is like a prologue to the EP ‘cause [it’s] called Room 93, and it basically just touches on like the human intimacy of hotel rooms and how it’s like an alternate universe. It kinda tells the story of a couple in a hotel room, experiencing like a tender moment together and the most notable line is “is there somewhere you can meet me?” because it’s like a frequently exchanged text message between myself and the person this song’s about, and it usually ending up being an hotel room.

7. Xscape – My Little Secret

The song peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it was the last single with the group before breaking up. The chorus of the song displays a relationship that is on the down low between two loves that don’t want anyone else to be aware of it. The other woman and the man’s girlfriend seem to know each other but the girlfriend doesn’t have a clue about the relationship. The secrecy of the affair excites the other woman.

8. Melanie Martinez – Pacify Her

The song is basically about a homewrecker. The other woman is numb to love and doesn’t care about her actions. She is set on trying to free the man she is seeing from the grip of his girlfriend even though she doesn’t really love the boy herself. A pacifier is used to quiet a crying infant. Speaking to Fuse, Martinez had this to say about the song:

Cry Baby is basically a homewrecker, and steals a boy from a random girl, just because she feels like she has lost all hope in love, and is trying to flirt with people and hurt people’s feelings.

9. Robyn – Call Your Girlfriend

The other woman is tired of waiting and thinks it unfair that he keeps her waiting. She advises him on how to split up with his girlfriend so that she can end up as his official girlfriend. She then goes into detail about what to tell her at different stages of their break-up conversation and how he should respond based on how she reacts.

The song is part of the album Body Talk (2010).

10. Ella Mai, Chris Brown – Whatchamacallit

11. Atlantic Starr – Secret Lovers

This song was able to peak at number 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and topped the Adult Contemporary chart. It is about two people who are each in a committed relationship cheating on their partners with each other. They are having a secret affair and are afraid of getting busted since this would destroy their happy homes. They need to be extra careful and not look guilty around each other’s significant other and avoid things like public displays of affection, blatant flirtation, or disappearing together while out with their partners.
