Last Updated on: January 11, 2023

One this that is guaranteed when it comes to interacting with other people is that at one point in time, there will be some form of conflict between you and someone else. Even in romantic relationships, fighting is inevitable and completely natural. Below is a list of songs that talk about arguments, conflicts and fights in general:

1. Taylor Swift – Great War

The song is from the album Midnights. It debuted at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100. Generally, it gives details about a devastating conflict within a romantic relationship. The term “The Great War” has been used to symbolize the conflict whereby Taylor Swift compared the relationship to the First World War thereby emphasizing how painful it is for both parties.

The Great War was named after the First World War and at the time it was known to be the war that would end all wars. Taylor sings about surviving what she thought to be the hardest part of her relationship. This delivers a hopeful message to couples emerging from tension together.

2. Taylor Swift – Bad Blood

Many speculated that the song is about her public fallout with Katy Perry. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift talked about what inspired her to do the song:

For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?‘ [In 2013] she did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.

3. Ne-Yo – Mad

The track starts out with Ne-Yo and his girl engaging in an argument that leads to someone getting hit. We then see Ne-yo try to convince his lover that they are fighting without any thoughts as to why. He also acknowledges the fact that at times they will end up fighting but he just doesn’t want them to end the day without burying the hatchet.

Going to bed can also be used as a metaphor to make peace with your loved ones before their time runs out.

4. Mariah Carey feat Ne-Yo – Angels Cry

The track is from Mariah’s twelfth studio album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. It is generally about holding out hope that a relationship can be saved after an intense disagreement. The couple also wonder why they let their great relationship end up in such a storm.

5. Jordin Sparks – Battlefield

The song was originally released in 2019 and is part of the album Battlefield. It reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 6 on the Pop Songs chart. Lyrically, it is when you and your significant other are arguing and then temporarily break up. The feelings are likened to war because fo the constant stress and feeling of loss.

6. Chris Stapleton – Fire Away

The track is from their debut album Traveller and it was co-written with a songwriter named Danny Green. One of them drew inspiration from an argument they had had with a woman that morning or the night before.

The song is generally a song about the frustration of commitment. It is about bracing for a heated fight with a particularly sharp-tongued lover and hanging in there no matter what as a form of unconditional love. It brings out broader relationship themes related to both verbal attacks and partners’ natural defense responses.

7. Pink – Blow Me

The song is the lead single from her sixth album, The Truth About Love. The song is about finally letting go of a marriage that has been strained by a lot of constant fighting.

8. DDG – Arguments

This is an emotional track presumably about DDG’s ex-girlfriend Kennedy Cymone. He explains how he feels after the arguments the two had and reveals how he truly feels about her.

DDG states that at the time he wrote the song there were a lot of accusations in the relationship with regard to other women. His ex questioned him about them and this is what made up the first verse of the song. He also added that he hates arguing and sees that no one benefits.

9. Brad Paisley feat Demi Lovato – Without A Fight

The track is off the album So Country which was released back in 2018. It is about a couple caught in a cycle of arguments that leaves them both regretting some of the things they said to each other. They start doubting whether they belong together.

10. Daughtry – Battleships

Battleship is part of Daughtry’s fourth studio album Baptized written by Chris Daughtry, Martin Johnson and Sam Hollander. It debuted at number 38 on the Billboard Adult Pop Charts.

The lyrics describe a conflicted love where the narrator and his lover love each other like battleships meaning they are constantly fighting. He is feeling upset and depressed by this current situation.

11. Zedd, Maren – The Middle

This is the first collaboration between Zedd and Maren Morris after meeting in Nashville. The song is from the album Spring Party released in 2018.

The meaning of the chorus was tied to a couple that is having an argument and they just won’t just agree. One of them is trying to compromise and just meet in the middle so that at least they can save the relationship.

12. Billie Eilish – When The Party’s Over

This is the second single from the album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go released back in 2019. Here we see Billie putting some distance between her and her lover hence the song wasn’t written to be a sad son but one of an angry mood.

Billie stated that those who would relate to the song are those who have had someone on the phone yelling for some reason and at that moment you are like “leave me alone”. This is common among couples fighting.

13. Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj – Swish Swish

The track is the third single from Katy’s fifth studio album Witness and it addresses her fight with Taylor Swift. It is a response to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” and this was confirmed when Katy starred in James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke. She stated, “She started it and it’s time for her to finish it. Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me, daddy, there’s going to be a reaction.”

14. Drake – Back To Back

The song was part of the feud between Meek Mill and Drake. This was his response to Meek Mill’s allegations of ghostwriting in 2015. Drake went ahead to perform the song live at OVO Fest accompanied by fan-made memes that dissed Meek Mill and this is considered as the point where Drake won the feud.
