When we have kids we only have probabilities, a son or a daughter. Regardless, a child is a blessing that walks into your life and each parent should buckle up and enjoy the journey of raising one. Here is a list of songs about daughters:

1. Brett Young – Lady


Speaking to iHeartRadio Brett Young stated that Lady is a special song for him since it comes from personal experience. He wrote the song way before, together with his wife, they found out they were pregnant. The most exciting part is when he found out they were going to have a little girl. He had always jokingly called his wife ‘Lady’ and so when they found out they were having a girl she became ‘Little Lady’. The song became a gift to his wife and daughter.

The message in the song is basically his wife leading by example and showing their daughter how to be a lady every single day, just by being the woman that she is.

 

2. Logan Mize – Prettiest Girl In The World


The song is from the album Still That Kid which was released in 2021. Lyrically the song is about his daughter who is worried about her imperfections and whether she looks pretty enough. Logan, her father, keeps reassuring her that she is the prettiest girl in the world and any boy would be more than happy to have her just the way her father is happy to call her his daughter.

 

3. Drew Baldrige – She’s Somebody’s Daughter


‘She’s Somebody’s Daughter’ is a pop-country track written by Cameron Jaymes, Jimmy Yearly & Drew Baldridge. Lyrically it is about widening your thoughts about someone and seeing them at a different angle. The singer speaks to a young man who is dating a certain lady and he reminds him that the lady is more than what the young man sees/thinks. Before him, her father loved and cared for her. Even if she is an adult now he shouldn’t forget that she has a whole father who played a big role in her life.

The track was released in 2011 and it is about Chris Brown’s daughter Royalty. He expresses how he can’t imagine life without her and how he is willing to give up everything so that he can be with her. In the music video, we see Chris Brown and Royalty spending a lot of time together and playing.






5. Kane Brown – For My Daughter


The song is from the album Experiment which was released in 2018 and was co-written by Chase McGill and Kane Brown. In it we mainly hear Kane pouring out his hopes and dreams for his relationship with his daughter.

Kane grew up without a dad so he is focused on becoming the best dad he can be. He lists some of the things he hopes to do for her and help her with such as scare the monsters away, someone to play catch with, help her with her first heartbreak and many others.

 

6. The Shires – Daddy’s Little Girl


The song was written by Crissie Rhodes who is part of the British duo The Shires. It is a very special song for since her dad passed away from cancer when she was 8 years old but she still thinks of herself as daddy’s little girl. The music video features real footage and photos of them together.

Lyrically, the song goes down memory lane as Crissie remembers some of the things she used to do with her dad and things he used to tell her.

 

7. Camila Cabello – First Man


Camila sings directly to her father, Alejandro. The message she tries to tell him is that he shouldn’t worry about the relationship she was in. At the time she was dating Matthew Hussey but the pair split up in June 2019. Camila was able to perform the song live at the 2020 Grammy Awards ceremony with her father in the audience.

“First Man” was the first song she wrote for the album Romance. While she was bouncing through a bunch of ideas she started talking about her dad and got emotional about it.

 

8. Trace Adkins – You’re Gonna Miss This


The song is off the album American Man: Greatest Hots Volume II released in 2007. Trace sings about his teenage daughter who can’t wait to be an adult so that she can make her own money and live by her own rules. He tells her that one day when she is a grown-up she look back to her current days and starts missing them. He adds that time will move so fast and before she knows it she will be taking care of her own babies.

This is the third single from the album Life If Good and it is dedicated to his daughter Destiny Jones. In the track, Nas starts off by sharing the instances where he struggled with setting a good example for his daughter because of his experiences from his past and career. She is now all grown up as a teenager and is doing things that most fathers might find it hard to accept that their daughters are old enough to engage in. He shares how he struggles with being overprotective with her.

 

10. John Mayer – Daughters


This is the 8th tack off Mayer’s 2003 album and 3rd studio EP, Heavier Things. It was able to win the 2004 Grammy Award for Song Of The Year at the 47th Grammy Awards.

Mayer stated that he was frustrated with many beautiful women who couldn’t trust men and when he traced it back it all led to the first man in their life, their father. The lack of proper love from their fathers led to most women not being able to thrive in relationships. He thus encourages fathers to love their daughters since children often model their future relationships off of the relationships within their family.

Some have termed this as Eminem’s least offensive song ever. It is dedicated to his daughters Haile Jade and Alaina Marie Mathers. He talks about how raising them with his media image and their mother Kim’s drug problem made their upbringing to be difficult. He apologizes to them that they had to go through all this.

Eminem also raps about how when they were much young they were struggling with money. Before his daughter’s first birthday, he got fired from his cooking job at Gilbert’s Lodge five days before Christmas. He had just 40 dollars to get them something for Christmas and Haile’s birthday.

“Little More” is a song written for his daughter Royalty Brown. Here we see how much his daughter means so much for him more than the cars, clothes and fame. He currently has joint custody of her so he spends 12 days in a month with her. Because he can’t be with her all the time, he cherishes every second he spends with her.





 

13. Eminem – When I’m Gone


The track is a personal story about his relationship with his daughter Hailie and how him being away because of his career has influenced her, the family and himself. The lyrics in the song are structured in a way that we see a conversation between the two of them in different scenerios.

In the chorus of the track, he speaks directly to Haile assuring her that even if he can’t find the time to be there for her, she’ll always be able to feel his presence through his music. Hailie putting boxes in front of the door was a real thing that happened that made Eminem feel guilty. He had reached the point in his life that he had to decide what was more important between his family and his rap career.

 

14. Kenny Chesney – There Goes My Life


The track was written by Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher. It is the first single in the album When The Sun Goes Down and spend seven weeks at number one back in December 2003.

The song starts with man feeling so much pressure raising a child when he himself feels like he is so young and he hasn’t achieved his dreams. Years later when his daughter is now a toddler his tune changes to immense love for her. We then experience another time jump and we see her moving to another city.

The single is from her 2003 album Martina.  It peaked at #39 on the Billboard Hot Country songs and #3 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.

Martina sings about how her daughter has inspired her to see a brighter future and persevere through hard times. She also wants to set a good example for her.

The track was written by Lzzy Hale together with Joe Hottinger and Dave Bassett. It is her way to inspire and empower others in the same way.
