10 Songs About Fathers & Daughters
It has been observed that a father-daughter relationship is more enhanced as compared to a father-son relationship. Fathers tend to be more protective of their daughters and having a good relationship can impact her personality and sometimes determine her future relationships. Below is a list of songs about fathers and their daughters:
1. Beyonce – Daddy Lessons
This is Beyonce’s first truck in the country music genre. It is about her childhood roots in Texas and she also shares the lessons she has learned from her father Mathew Knowles over the years. He taught her to be strong and protect herself against troublesome men.
Mathew played a significant role in Beyonce’s career during the early years of it. He managed her from the Girls Tyme through Destiny’s Child and eventually her solo career. However, in 2011 Beyonce fired him due to his infidelity to Tina Knowles.
2. Alan Jackson – You’ll Always Be My Baby
Alan wrote the song for his daughters’ weddings. Lyrically, he sings about the memories he has of his daughter when she was young and describes how much he treasures them. He reminds his daughter that she will always be his baby no matter where they go.
3. Brett Young – Lady
Speaking to iHeartRadio, Brett Young stated that he had planned to write this song before his wife got pregnant. When he found out that they were having a girl he started calling her ‘little lady’ which is an iteration of the nickname he calls his wife, ‘Lady’.
Lyrically, the song is about his experience as a new dad from the time he heard her heartbeat. He wants her to follow her mother’s example so that she can learn to be a great person just like her.
4. Eminem – Mocking Bird
The song is in the album Encore (2004). Eminem stated during an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine that it was a love song dedicated to his daughters Hailie and Alaina. Since he wasn’t the greatest talker when trying to explain to his two little girls what was going on with regard to their mother, he used this song to explain to them what was going on.
At the time, Kim (Eminem’s wife and mother to his daughters) was having a drug problem and was always on the run hence disappearing from his daughters’ lives. Eminem tries to explain what was going on and why they had to get divorced. He also gives an apology for the poverty upbringing that they had to undergo before he got famous.
5. Camila Cabello – First Man
Camila sings directly to her father Alejandro in this track. She was basically trying to ease his worries about the relationship she was in at the time. She was dating Matthew Hussey during the period the song was written but they broke up in June 2019. Camila also performed the song live at the 2020 Grammy Awards ceremony where her father was in the audience.
6. Kane Brown – For My Daughter
The song was co-written by Chase McGill, Tom Douglas and Kane Brown. Kane pours out his hopes and dreams for his relationship with his daughter. He draws inspiration from his personal life. He revealed that he grew up without a dad and he wanted to be the best dad for his little girl. The one lesson he learned from his dad is knowing what not to do when he has his own baby.
The track is part of the album Experiment released in 2018.
7. Logan Mize – Prettiest Girl In The World
In this track, Logan’s daughter is feeling insecure about her looks and worries about imperfections. Logan tries to reassure her that she is beautiful just the way she is any boy would be happy to have her.

8. Eminem – When I’m Gone
This is a personal story about Eminem’s relationship with his daughter Haile and how his constant absence is taking a toll on her. He assures her that even if he can’t find the time to be there for her, she will be able to feel his presence through his music.
Eminem once shared that the guilt of always having to leave to go perform on stage was affecting him and he was at a point in his life when he had to decide whether his career or family was more important. In the song, Eminem gradually tears away from the stage life and starts being there more for his family instead.
9. Demi Lovato – For The Love Of A Daughter
This is the 14th track from Demi Lovato’s third album Unbroken. It was supposed to be in her sophomore album “Here We Go Again” but she felt that the subject would be too much for her young audience. She didn’t want the subject being talked about in someone else’s home with 7 year old and their mom.
The subject of the song is Demi’s relationship with her biological father Patrick whom she barely saw after her parents divorced when she was just two years old. He died of cancer at the age of 53. Lyrically, she talks about how selfish he was for abandoning her and begs him to stop drinking. However, she admits that her efforts are kind of hopeless.
10. Demi Lovato – Shouldn’t Come Back
The track is another song about her estranged father which she wrote before he passed away. Unlike her other tracks ‘For The Love Of A Daughter’ and “Open” where she wants a relationship with him, here she has given up on their relationship. He kept trying to call her but she didn’t want to talk to him after all that she had been through. She kept reminding him that he was never there for her when she was a child. She is tired of being sad and mad for being let down.
