10 Songs About Friday

In most countries, Friday is the last working day of the week and once it ends it marks the beginning of the weekend. It is the day that most people look forward to. Below is a list of songs about Friday:

1. Katy Perry – Last Friday Night

This is an ode to partying heavily and it is evident in the music video where we see Katy Perry celebrating a party at her house on a Friday night. The chorus details what she did on that Friday night such as taking shots, dancing on tabletops, maxing out their credit cards till they got kicked out of the bar and thereafter going skinny dipping in the dark.

As much as she regrets everything she did on that Friday night, she wants nothing more than to do it all over again the next week. The song became Katy Perry’s 5th consecutive number one Hit 100 single from the album thus breaking a record of becoming the first woman in the 53-year history of Billboard to have five of her singles from the same album reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

2. Flo Rida feat Jason Derulo – Hello Friday

Flo Rida and Jason Derulo team up to come up with a Friday anthem. Friday has been personified to be someone that Jason Derulo has been waiting for and credits them for saving him when his life came tumbling down. Flo Rida describes Friday as a charm who creates a party every time they come around.

The song is part of the album Energy Hits (2016).

3. Riton x Nightcrawlers – Friday

The song got popular after getting popular on the social media platform Tik Tok. Lyrically, it is about celebrating the weekend that begins on Friday and ends on Sunday. There is a lot of anticipation for the weekend and they all sing about what they will do when it comes.

4. Rebecca Black – Friday

In the year of its release, the song went incredibly viral but received overwhelmingly negative reviews. This led to her getting bullied at school when she was just 13 and falling into depression when she was 15. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #72 during its first week and peaked at #58.

Rebecca basically sings about what she will be doing on that Friday as she looks forward to the weekend.

5. Lil Dicky feat CB – Freaky Friday

The song involves a crossover between Lil Dicky and Chris Brown. In the first verse, Lil Dicky raps as Chris Brown and in the second verse, Chris Brown acts as Lil Dicky. Freaky Friday is based on a movie of the same name. It involved a girl and her mother switching places accidentally and end up experiencing each other’s lives.

Lil Dicky got the idea for the song while at his parents’ house in Philadelphia and the movie Freaky Friday came on TV. He thought to himself, “Oh my God, this is such a… imagine if you did this with music, like imagine if I had access to another artist’s vocal cords and their range.”

6. Ice Cube – Friday

The track is a soundtrack in the 1995 comedy film by the name Friday. It was co-written by the co-stars Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. In addition to this, it marked the beef between Ice Cube and Cypress Hill. Cypress alleged that Ice Cube stole the hook of the track from the track “Throw Your Set In The Air” while visiting their studio.

7. The Cure – Friday I’m In Love

This is the second single from the band’s ninth studio album Wish and it ended up becoming one of their most successful songs. In an interview with Guitar World, Robert Smith revealed he first came up with the chord sequence of the song on a Friday and the song was recorded on a Friday night hence they decided to have ‘Friday’ in the title.

When it came to the words of the song, Robert suggested they do a song about that Friday feeling which is a thing you have at school and at work, especially for people who don’t really enjoy their jobs. That Friday feeling is something you look forward to.

8. Sia – Cheap Thrills

The song was initially written for Rihanna’s album ANTi but was rejected and later included on Sia’s This Is Acting, which is an album that is comprised entirely of songs Sia wrote for other people. It ended up becoming Sia’s first #1 song on Billboard Hot 100 chart as a lead artist and also clinched the title of the most streamed song by a female artist in Spotify history.

Sia starts out the song by stating that she is getting right to enjoy the Friday night. She is planning to hit the dance floor and enjoy herself with her partner despite not having any cash. She doesn’t need materialism to have a good night.
