14 Songs About Gratitude
Gratitude is basically a feeling of appreciation by a recipient of another’s kindness, gifts, help, favors or other form of generosity to the giver of the gifts. From time to time in our lives we get to experience some for of generosity or appreciation. It is a good behavior to show some form of gratitude. Below is a list of songs about gratitude:
1. Kehlani – Thank You
This track is dedicated to everyone who has been part of Kehlani’s life. Having impacted their lives negatively or positively, she reminds us that she is only human and realizes that it is only when she admits her mistakes that she can grow from them.
Kehlani also dedicates the song to her loyal fanbase which has loved her unconditionally. Without them, none of what she is able to do today would be possible. The track is part of the album SweetSexySavage.
2. Big Sean feat Drake, Kanye West – Blessings
The three artists are among the most successful rappers worldwide at the time hence are thankful for their lives and don’t take anything for granted. Big Sean also raps about the fake friends he started getting successful and how his high school sweetheart broke up with him because he was becoming famous and would hardly be there when she needed him.
Drake raps about how he has reached the level of success where he doesn’t rely on Grammy Awards to tell him he is the best in his category. Kanye West mentions how he can afford to have his kids home-schooled and how he wants to start his own school that encompasses a montessori education that focuses more on providing freedom of expression and social development.
3. Ariana Grande – Thank U, Next
Ariana goes on to discuss themes of self-love, growth and empowerment after a breakup. She is thankful for all her failed relationships since they helped her grow as a person. At the time she had just broken with Pete Davidson whom she got engaged to after about a month of dating. She realized she didn’t wasn’t ready for marriage.
Ariana also mention her father Edward Butera and thanked him for leaving her mother since she grew from the drama her caused.
4. Jay Z – Roc Boyz
This is the second single from Jay Z’s tenth studio album, American Gangster. It peaked at #63 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was named by Rolling Stone as the best song of 2017.
On the track, Jay Z celebrates street corner capitalism and takes the chance to give a toast to his cohorts and customers. He stated that he wanted the stories in American Gangster to have that celebratory moment where you’ve reached the height of everything.
5. Meghan Trainor feat R City – Thank You
Meghan takes the opportunity to thank everyone who helped in her success paying special emphasis to her fans. She even brought up a number of fans to sing during her Untouchable Tour.
Meghan thanks everyone for helping her live her dream every day and for spreading word about her music. Without them, she would have never gotten that Grammy.
6. Koffee – Toast
This is the first single from Koffee’s debut EP titled ‘Rapture’. Its theme is mainly expressing gratitude. Koffee feels that she has reaped blessings over time and instead of boasting of the higher position she prefers to give thanks to God. Her decision to try record music while in her third year in college paid off.
Koffee also thanks her friends for the new lifestyle on the road.
7. Celine Dion – Because You Loved Me
The track is from Celine Dion’s fourth English language studio album, Falling Into You. Lyrically, we see the protagonist thanking a loved one for being there for her as well as making her the person she is today.
Diane Warren wrote the song and she explained that the song became personal at the time since it became a way of thanking her dad for everything he did for her and the support he has always given her. He believed in her music from the time she was a little girl and when she was 15 he took her around to music publishers. He also supported her financially when she was struggling in the beginning.
8. Otis Redding – I Want To Thank You
Lyrically, Otis says goodbye while thanking his lover for being nice to him and being sweet in everything she did.
9. Christina Aguilera – What A Girl Wants
This is the second track on Christina Aguilera’s 1999 self-titled album. The main subject of the song is about an independent strong woman who knows what she wants from a relationship both sexually and emotionally. She thanks her man for knowing and giving her exactly what she wants at different moments.
The track peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic, Mainstream Top 40 and the Billboard Hot 100. It was also top in Canada, New Zealand and Spain.
10. Alanis Morissette – Thank U
Alanis wrote the song during a trip to India in 1997 when she had decided to take a break from her life as a superstar. She said that when she took a break she felt like she could finally breathe. She was left with an immense amount of gratitude, inspiration, love and bliss. This is where the song was born.
11. Dido – Thank You
The track is part of Dido’s debut studio album, No Angel, released in 1999. It peaked at #3 in the US and reached top 40 in the UK. Lyrically, Dido is singing to her lover thanking him for making her forget all of her troubles and making it the best day of her life.
12. Tyler, The Creator – Thank You
The song is the tenth song on IGOR and follows the multi-part structure the rest of the ten tracks follow. The first part GONE GONE features Tyler thinking about losing his love for his partner which has been the main point of discussion in the album. The second part THANK YOU features Tyler thanking his partner for their love. He isn’t blinded by the hatred since he knows they had good times. He is so hurt that the relationship is going south that he doesn’t think he’ll ever be able to love again.
13. DJ Khaled feat Big Sean – Thank You
Big Sean raps about his humble origins and gives a description of his come up. He also thanks DJ Khaled for giving him the exposure he needed to become big in the rap game. He thanks his whole support system and states that even though he cannot name everyone they have played an important role.
14. Logic – Thank You
The song is off the album YSIV which was released in 2018. Logic starts by looking back at his humble beginnings when he was kicked out of his home as a teenager. His friend Big Lenbo took him in anf gave him one year to focus on music and make a career out of it.
The track also includes voicemails from the members of Logic’s fan base. He tweeted out that the line was open and they could call and leave a voicemail. They show support for his music and thank him for the impact he has made in their lives.
