7 Songs About Siblings
A sibling is basically your brother or sister with who you share a common parent. Generally, most siblings have a unique love-hate relationship when they are younger and it is common for them to fight from time to time. As they grow older it is common for the bond to get stronger.
1. Kodaline – Brother
The music video of the track features a boy who has lost his older brother. The lyrics then go back in time from their childhood where the brothers play together in their own fantasies thus referring to themselves as kings and queens who ruled their own little world. They progressively age as we see them grow up and take on different paths in life.
They state how they would both be there for each other should any need help.
2. Avicii – Hey Brother
Avicii drew inspiration from the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou. It is about a boy who grew up during the Vietnam War which led to the death of his father.
Avicii starts out by stating that family relationships are more important than those between friends and one should remember to spend time with relatives as well. He goes on to add that he will always be around to help their sibling no matter what.
3. Haschak Sisters – Sister
The track is about how the four Haschak sisters have a sisterly bond that can never be broken. They each give a short introduction of themselves in each verse and finally sing about their bond.
4. Sister Sledge – We Are Family
The hit song is from their breakout album We Are Family released in 1979 and was adopted by the Pittsburgh Pirates as their theme song. It was written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards after they were inspired by a meeting they had with the Atlantic Record executive who had pitched them on the group.
Lyrically, the song is about the family bond of the sisters.
5. Lilly Allen – Alfie
The song pokes fun at Lily’s younger brother Alfie who at the time was an emerging actor. She had become so fed up with his childishness and got tired of his laziness. He used to just watch TV, eat and smoke weed the whole day. Lily’s message was urging him to pull his life together.
Alfie ended up landing the role of Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones
6. Da Baby – Brother’s Keeper
DaBaby goes ahead to express his feeling after losing his 34-year-old brother Glenn Johnson to gunshot wounds related to a suicide attempt. He passed away on November 3, 2020 and left behind a son and three daughters.
The term “Brother’s Keeper” is another way of saying someone for who you are responsible. DaBaby expresses that his new responsibilities are to continue his brother’s legacy and spoil his 4 children as if they were his own.
