Sometimes our timing of falling in love can be wrong and we fall in love with someone who isn’t in a position to romantically love another person or someone who won’t be physically there due to uncontrollable circumstances. 1. Avicii – Waiting For Love

This is the third single off the Stories album. It was vocalized by Simon Aldred, the lead singer of the band Cherry Ghost. It peaked at #1 in Austria, Belgium, Norway and Sweden.

Lyrically, the main character of the song is desperately waiting and trying to find somebody to love. His heart has been broken and he describes how he dealt with it. He first gives up hope then opens up his heart for another love thus letting himself be vulnerable.

The music video features an elderly man with dementia who goes out on a journey to seek out his lost wife.

 

2. Guns N Roses – Patience

The song is about a man who was missing his ex and he tells her that the problems they had will work themselves out with time. With patience, they will be together in a good place.

It has been stated that Stradlin wrote the song about his ex-girlfriend Angela Nicoletti McCoy.

 

3. Mumford & Sons – I Will Wait

This is the third song on their second studio album Babel. It is currently the band’s most successful song after having peaked at #12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and being certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA. It also got a Grammy Awards nomination in 2012 for the best rock performance.

Lyrically, the song tells the story of a man fighting through troubled times to be with the person he loves.

 

4. Brad Paisley – Waiting On A Woman

The song is part of the album Time Well Wasted (2005). In it, Brad bumps into an older gentleman who was sat on a chair along the street. He tells him that he is there to wait for his girl and it turns to a conversation where the older gentleman shares different instances he has had to wait on his own lady. He advises Brad to get used to waiting.

 

5. The Script – The Man Who Can’t Be Moved

The song is a story of a man who ran out of options to find the girl that left him and has resorted to simply living on the corner where he first met her in hopes she will return to him. He even hopes to get famous as the man who can’t be moved so that she would see him on the news and come running to the corner.

 

6. August Alsina – Wait

In the song, August sings about how he cannot be close to women as he used to be before so he prefers to tell them not to wait on him but he hopes they would wait. He blames fame as the reason that he cannot be close to them.

 

7. Ed Sheeran – Photograph

Ed sings about how he can use photographs taken with his ex-girlfriend as a symbol of their love. He is trying to preserve their love in a picture so that the romance’s beauty will remain with them forever. When he is away, she can hold onto them until they can be together again.

Ed wrote the song about his ex-girlfriend Nina Nesbitt.

 

8. One Republic – Come Home

This is the closing song on One Republic’s debut album Dreaming Out Loud. It is about one of Ryan Tedder’s closest friends who had just proposed to his girlfriend after dating for years. Shortly after, he was deployed in Iraq.

I was so flattered when Ryan asked me to sing on this track. He also told me the very sentimental story behind the song about a friend of his that was serving in the military and his fiancée at home, and their struggles to get through a very difficult time.

 

9. Maroon 5 – Wait

This is an upbeat pop where Adam asks a girl to stay and hear him out while she is leaving. He wants to make up all those bad times to get her to stay. It appears that his ex might be getting married and he decided to show up even though he wasn’t invited. He asks her to wait and not go through with it but instead to give him a chance to make it up to her.

10. Ally Barron – Just Friends

The song is basically about being in love with your best friend and waiting for them to feel the same way about you. You have no option but to be patient for just the right moment.

11. Cassie – Is It You

The song was the official soundtrack to the  2008 American dance movie Step Up 2: The Streets where Cassie made her film debut as Sophie Donovan. Lyrically, Cassie sings about looking for someone to be in a relationship with her who isn’t a pretender. She meets a guy whom she thinks is the one she has been waiting for.
