10 Space Movies Like Interstellar

Interstellar is a science fiction film directed and produced by Christopher Nolan. It is set in a future where humanity is desperate to find a new home so that mankind can survive since earth is no longer inhabitable. The group of astronauts travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home.

The film grossed over $677 million worldwide and $696 million in subsequent re-releases. Here is a list of films similar to Interstellar.

1. Ad Astra


This is an American psychological science film that stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones and Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler and Donald Sutherland as the main cast. The story follows an astronaut who decides to venture into space with the aim of finding his father who got lost in space while trying to find alien life.

 

2. Life (2017)


The film is about a six-member crew of the International Space Station who discover evidence of life on Mars. It was able to gross $100 million worldwide.

 

3. First Man (2018)


The film stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong and the plot is about the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the moon back in 1969. It was produced by Steven Spielberg and ended up grossing $105 million worldwide.

 

4. High Life (2018)


This is a 2018 science fiction horror film directed by Claire Denis. It is about a group of criminals who get sent on a mission to travel on a spaceship toward a black hole while taking part in scientific experiments.

The film is based off a 2011 novel by Andy Weir. It depicts an astronaut’s lone struggle to survive on Mars after he was left behind. We also get to see the efforts to rescue him and bring him home to earth.

 

8. Gravity (2013)


The movie stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as American astronauts stranded in space after their space shuttle run into problems. It had a production budget of around $100 million and was able to achieve a worldwide gross of over $723 million.

 

9. Europa Report (2013)


It depicts a fictional story of the first crewed mission of Europa, one of the four Galilean moons of Jupiter.

 

10. Apollo 13


The docudrama film was directed by Ron Howard and stars Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris. It shares the story of the aborted 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission and is also an adaptation of the 1994 book Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13.
