The research and innovation arm of Strathmore University, iLab is one of the firms bidding to get a contract to collect the taxes for county governments in Kenya. It has made its application in 10 of the 15 counties and got shortlisted by four counties.
iLab has been running a pilot service in Kiambu County specifically Gatundu North and South. Their system has various fraud elimination features such as bar-codes on business permits which can be scanned and reveal the amount paid for the permit and the date of payment. Most counties in Kenya are facing a loss in revenue due too fraud corruption and tax evasion.
