A flower is used mainly to symbolize something, depending on the event or occasion. Did you know, you can actually use flowers to make a social statement? Well when something is rare and there is demand for it, it is expensive. This also applies to flowers. Here are some of the most expensive flowers in the world.
10. Lisianthus ($10 – $35 per bundle)
Lisianthus, also known as the Eustoma grandiflorum, grows from 15cm to 60cm tall. It is up to 5 cm in diameter and blooms once a year. The color of the flower can differ from lavender, pale purple, white or blue violet. This flowers are valuable and fragile since they can only survive for about two to three weeks once removed from the stem.
9. Lily of the Valley ($15 – $50 per bundle)
Lily of the Valley, or the Convallaria Majalis, is a sweetly scented poisonous flower. These flowers are famous for its dainty appearance and its bell-shaped blooms. They were called Our Lady’s tears in old Christianity since it blooms after mild winters in the Northern Hemisphere. The plant grows to around 15 – 30 cm, and its lifespan is only a couple of weeks so people are extra careful when picking these flowers.
8. Hydrangea ($6.5 per stem)
The Hydrangea grows from early spring to late autumn, and the plant grows to about 1 to 3 meters tall. The main color of the flower is usually white but it can also be violet, light purple, blue or pink. The Hydrangea is usually famous for its one of a kind circular cluster of small flowers per stem.
7. Gloriosa ($6 – $10 per flower)
This flower grows around the areas of Asia and South Africa, and it is hard to find, hence the price. The Gloriosa grows to about 3 meters and the flowers are famous for its petals changing color from time to time. Their main colors are yellow, yellow-green, orange and deep red.
6. 17th Century Tulip Bulb (10,000 guilders or $5,700 during the 17th century)
This flower was really costly in the 17th century in spite of how simple and common it looked. This flower was loved for the deep colors it had and also for its shape. During that time, the prices shot to 10,000 guilders, which was worth it if you wanted to be seen as a person of a high social standard.
5. Saffron Crocus ($1,200 – $1,500 per pound)
Probably most of you guys have heard of this as a spice instead of a flower, but some areas still sell it as a flower. The spice from it comes from the unique yellow stamen that this flower has, and you need almost 80,000 of these flowers to just make half a kilogram of spice, hence explaining its price. Apart from its yellow stamen, it is purple in color.
4. Gold of Kinabalu Orchid ($6,000 per piece)
This flower is so expensive because of how beautiful it is and the fact that it can only be found in the Kinabalu National Park in Malaysia and is very hard to grow. The Gold of Kinabalu Orchid has beautiful long and green petals that contain red spots. It can only grow between the months of April and May and might take a lot of years before it finally blooms into a flower.
3. Shenzhen Nongke Orchid (1.68 million Yuan or about $200,000)
This flower is so unique that it was made entirely by people who were conducting an experiment for eight years just growing and observing this flower. It has a one of a kind look, which adds on to the price, and it takes around five years for this flower to blossom.
2. Juliet Rose (£3 million or about $15.8 million)
This flower was first seen by the world in the year 2006 at the Chelsea show, after been worked on for 15 years by David Austin to create this magnificent flower. One of the unique things about this flower that distinguishes it from other roses is that when it is fully bloomed the petals are revealed to be in a neatly arranged way in fold around the heart of the flower.

This flower is so priceless that it cannot be picked without damaging it. It also dies before the sun rises. The Kadupul blossoms at night which provides a calming, lovely fragrance. Also, this flower is seen as some sort of a cactus species. This flower cannot be bought, even online.
